I am facing a lot of problems with virtools.. It started with the textures baking, and then importing the models into virtools and the interactions as well.. I wanna ask for bold, red with exclamination mark HELP!!! from anyone who's willing to share..

Problems in Texturing.

1. Baked textures files sometimes are too small and too big that it became so blurry and pixelated. Took a lot of time to bake the whole environment (keep on re doing to get the best that fits the model)

2. Reflection, refraction, opacity and bump in vrtool.

Solution that I found (credit to pinpin)

1. Lightmap in virtools. Must use standard map in 3d Max, and apply lightmap in Virtools. The outcome will be Vray-kinda look texture.

I am still exploring and trying this out.

My progress are Abdul Int (100%) done standard map, Jonker Ext(50%) done with standard map, Famosa Chicken Rice Ball (0%) and Tranquerah Bistro (0%) with standard map. I've done everything in Vray Shader but I am converting everything into Standard Map.

2. Normal bump. Ive download Nvidia photoshop installer and ive installed it, but the filter is still not loaded in my photoshop.

Proximity Sensor - when a user approaches, then a sound of music plays.

I was late for my 2nd presentation, and was not allowed to present at all.

I regretted that took 1/2 hour to bath knowing that I had a presentation. I regretted for 3 times of changing clothes. Neither the less, I deserved to be punished as a lesson for not coming late again. Lesson learned.

I attended Wednesday's class and presented my work. There was a little correction here and there to be made. Here's some of the design process.

After the presentation, few comments and suggestions from lecturers and fellows friends were noted down.

I'm in the progress of designing. Will update with you soon. :) Here is a little peek on the work.

The whole concept of Jonker Street would be ancient and historical to potray the buildings and environment dated back on 1800 to immerse the user with environment to evoke to feel interesting and intuitive to explore Jonker Street.

The buildings that I would model are the row of shops along Jalan Hang Jebat(Jonker Street) until the cross section of Jalan Hang Kasturi.

The 3 selected shops that I would be modeling in details are

There will be several avatar who serves different purposes in this project.

1. Tourist Guide - Before entering Jonker Street, there will be an avatar of a Tourist Guide. The avatar would explain the history, a set of instructions on how to navigate, to get map and information of the interesting places.

There will be several avatar of these tourist guide and it will be located in front of those 3 shops that I've decided to model in detail. These avatar, will then explain the history and give commentary on the shop.

2. Malay Man - An avatar of a Malay Man will be located in front of (at the door) Abdul's Antiques Shop. The avatar would greet the user and explain the type of items and how to navigate in Abdul's Antiques Shop

3. Malay Teenage Girl - For Forest's Spa, the avatar will be located at the door of Atler's Ice explaning the location that is on the second floor.

3. Malay Teenage Girl - Another avatar of a malay teenage girl will be located by the stairs to show the direction to Forest's Spa.

4. Malay Woman - This avatar will be located at the enterance of Forest's Spa. It is assigned to assist the user to make appoinment and purchase item via online.

Virtual Tourist Guide - Jonker Street.

Project Background

Title: Virtual Tourist Guide - Jonker Street.

Jonker Street literally translated as “Second Class Gentlemen” in Dutch. Running parallel to Heeren Street, the street has been renamed a number of times from Jonker Street to Jalan Hang Jebat, then to Jalan Gelanggang and finally to Jalan Hang Jebat.

In the past, it was the residence of servants servicing the houses of the affluent families in Heeren Street. The famous Jonker Street is reputed to be one of the places to hunt and bargain for antiques, Authentic artifacts and relics can be traced to some shops among the host of collectibles which included knick knacks and curios. The shop houses are simple and not grandeur as opposed to Heeren Street. Comes weekend, commencing from Friday evening till Sunday night, the street is closed to facilitate the operation of Jonker Walk.

The street is turned into pedestrian mall with mobile stalls lining up the street with offerings of traditional foods, art and crafts, Chinese fortune tellers and assorted collectibles. Just go and explore for interesting curios, antiques and a host of souvenirs fin the many quaint shops along this road.

There are a number of clan houses, Chinese clubs and associations located in this part of the street. Of greater dominance are the presence of antique shops with intriguing exhibits of relics and mementoes of bygone days.

Title: Virtual Tourist Guide - Jonker Street is a simulation of an existing location, it is composed of virtual models of the real location. The user benefits a lot of information about the history, activities, aesthetic values for their reference to plan ahead their trips. With Virtual Tourist Guide - Jonker Street, user may experience a 3D walkthrough of Jonker Street as well as interacting with the environment such as testing and purchasing items.

What is the objective of this project?

Apakah tarikan Jonker Street?

Dari segi seni bina, kebanyakkan awal akhir 1800 hingga awal 1900. Masa itu, relik dan motif rumah mempunyai motif-motif yg menarik. Beranda dihiasi dengan kelopak-kelopak bunga, di hiasai jubin, dan relik-relik timbul seperti bentuk bunga, binatang, naga dan sbgnya drp pecahan porselin yang berkenaan dgn budaya mereka.

Kebanyakkan rumah-rumahnya, semacam satu hiasan yg menarik yg menggambarkan kekayaan, membentuk satu seni bina yg menarik dan cantik serta berseni. Campuran senibina antara barat dan tempatan, gabungan golongan Baba dan Nyonya sepanjang jalan Jonker dan Heeren, kawasan yg sudah mendapat pengiktirafan Unesco Core Zone.

Jalan Jonker, sudah disusun semula plan strukturnya ketika Belanda memerintah. Lebar 20-22 kaki, pjg 200-300 kaki, 4/5 ruang udara. Pada masa itu, jika 2 muka rumah, cukai nya lebih tinggi berbanding 1 muka. Kawasan itu dibahagi oleh Belanda supaya dpt bekerja sama antara kaum Cina dan India.

Geran-geran rumah yg digunakan pada zaman Belanda masih digunakan pada zaman British. Pada zaman British, pihak British banyak membuka lombong dan mereka byk membina rumah pada keruntuhan rumah-rumah Belanda. Tapi masih ada juga bangunan-bangunan Belanda di Jalan Jonker Street. Ada sebuah gudang pada zaman Belanda yg masih ada pada zaman ini. Nama gudang tersebut adalah Atler's Ice yg dibina pada 1673 dibina oleh pedagang Cina. Tujuan besi 1673 itu adalah utk mengukuhkan tembok yang menunjukkan bahawa bangunan itu sudah terbina sejak 1673. Kawasan Jonker Street, boley dibaiki, tetapi tidak boley diubah, diruntuhkan dan dirobohkan.

Terdapat byk kedai-kedai antik di Jalan Jonker pada masa ini. Namun sebenarnya, konsep asal Jonker Street utk menarik pelancong agak lari sedikit. Asalnya, tujuan memulihara Jonker Street adalah mahu mewujudkan suasana pada zaman Belanda. Jadi org Cina, berpakaian cheongsam, org Melayu berpakaian baju kurung spt era 1800. Pada satu kedai, nampak kedai Belanda, satu kawasan ada tarian singa, pada satu kedai mendendangkan lagu dondang sayang, jadi akan kelihatan unik. Sayangnya, konsepnya tidak menjadi.

Abstract

Virtual Tourist Guide – Jonker Street is a simulation of an existing location, it is composed of a sequence of hyperlinked still or video images, and/or virtual models of the real location. It’s a portal where the user could have not only walkthrough experience, but to interact with each other and purchase items by using e-commerce through the internet.

Tourist may also benefit the information of shops, activities, history for the tourists to plan ahead their trips.

The main goal of Virtual Tourist Guide-Jonker Street is to promote tourism and attract tourist from all over the world to visit Jonker Street, as well as to boost up and generate sales and business opportunities between locals and foreign countries through e-commerce.

Jonker Street had been there since 1625, therefore, there were a lot of development had been made in and around Jonker Street. Meanwhile, Jonker Street or unofficially said to be the Antique Street as many antique shop selling old artifact and antique item here. It attracts a lot of tourist from all over the world to visit and witness the uniqueness or to hunt for antiques and local handicraft.

Virtual Tourist Guide-Jonker Street is created to preserve these beautiful architectural building along Jonker Street because of its great value of assets for tourism and national heritage.

Virtual Tourist Guide-Jonker Street is also proposing e-commerce for the locals to generate potential business opportunities and thus it equally benefits both shop owner and the government.

Level 1

On the start page before the user starts the VR application, there will an option for the user to register in the community or login.

When the user chooses register, there will be a window containing security webpage for the user to register.

Before entering Jonker Street, there’ll be a set of instructions on how to navigate, options to load info, history, and help.

Level 5

Entering Jonker Street. Walkthrough Jonker Street.

Entering shop. Before you enter the shop, there will be a character greeting the user, and give a brief explanation about the business in the shop.

Level 7.

When you enter the shop, there will be a pop menu conveying a set of instruction for the user to purchase item.

Level 8

Purchasing item. The user could select the item to purchase and a pop up window will appear. The user can have the opportunity to explore 360 degrees of the item. Then, there’ll be an option whether to purchase it or not. If the user is satisfy and would want to purchase, the user can select Purchase and a pop up window will appear. The user has to fill up all the information needed to purchase the item in the security webpage.

Level 9.

The user has to walk towards the end of Jonker Street to end the virtual tour.

Interaction Description

User will be able to use keyboard for the information of registration.
User will be able to consoler to navigate inside the world.
User will be able to toggle ON or OFF in the menu to show an interactive map and their present location.
When a user walks into the area of interaction, a text message will be appear to tell the bottom to give information about the clickable object.
When the user click on the object, a pop-up window will appear, the user can enjoy 360 panorama of the item and purchase the item.
When the user purchases the item, user has to communicate using keyboard.

with or reflect the cultural colours, such as antique copper coins, local and ethnic traditional food, unique arts and crafts, souvenirs, ornamental jewelry, and wooden clogs. For your information, Purple Flowers Handicrafts is one the pioneers of wooden clogs crafting in Melaka. Some of the local residents who own a house in Jonker Street, are also participating in this activity by converting the house into a premise, such as food s

tall, which allows visitors to enjoy the delicacies while gaining a chance to have a first ha

nd experience on the unique architectural design.

►Besides, some of the Chinese clan and dialect associations are also organizing activities in their respective buildings during weekends for visitors. These activi

ties include dancing classes, Chinese classical instrumental shows, and karaoke se

ssions. In order to encourage touristy activities being held at Jonker Street, a permanent stage is also built at the end of the street for performances.

►Jonker Walk is a good place for street shopping. As opposing to Chinatown in other places or countries, the traders here are generally friendly and communicative; there is hardly a scene of traders forcing visitors to buy their products. As a rule of thumb, bargaining for items which interest you would definitely be a prudent practice.

►If it was approaching or during Chinese New Year celebration, the Jonker Street will also be nicely decorated with cultural colors, and if you’re in the right time, an amazing scene of lion dance performance by tens to hundred of troops might also be caught in sight.

►To date, the Jonker Walk is still very much nominated by Chinese traders. Excluding the foreigners, most of the local visitors are Chinese. The objective of reflecting multi-racial cultural attributes is yet to be significantly actualized.

►Jonker Walk - A Place for Food Lovers

The Jonker Street is not only known for its cultural attractions and unique building architectures, but delicious foods and local delicacies as well. Being day or night, Jonker Street or Jonker Walk, the street is full of a number of shops and cafes selling a wide variety of foods and beverages. The Geographer Cafe located at the middle of the street is especially known among the foreign visitors, for its happening live bands on Friday and weekend nights. Besides, there’s also a shop called Jonker Dessert located diagonally opposite the Geographer Cafe, which is known for its Baba Nyonya delicacies.
